# Translate your stores

Does your online store sell in several languages? The app translates the texts of your store pages and types for you, into each language of your store. You fix a translation whenever you like.

## What is translated for you

The fixed texts of the blocks, such as the buttons, the section headings, the days of the week or the "Open now" badge, come in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. Each visitor sees them in the page's language. In another language, they show in English.

Country names, dates and times also follow the visitor's language: "7:00 PM" in American English, "19:00" in French.

## What the app translates

| Text | Translated |
| --- | --- |
| The description and access of a store that has a page | Yes |
| The page title and meta description, when you wrote them | Yes. Otherwise the title stays the store's name, and the meta description takes the start of the translated description. |
| A type's name | Yes, once for all its stores |
| A service's name | Yes, once for all its stores |
| A store's name and address | No: they stay the same in every language |

Translations are made by DeepL and included in your plan, up to 500,000 characters a month.

## Translate a language

1. Add your languages in **Settings > Languages**, if you haven't already.
2. In the app, open **Translations**, then choose the language.
3. Click **Translate now**. The window shows how many items and characters will be translated.
4. Click **Translate**. You can leave the page: the translation goes on, and your online store shows it once it's done.

## Translate automatically

Turn on **Automatic translation** on the language's screen. The app translates what is missing at once, then each change as soon as it is saved: an edited description, a new page, a new type or service, an import. Turn it off to stop.

## Fix a translation

1. In **Translations**, open the store page, the type or the service.
2. Fix the text next to its **Reference**, then save.

A translation you write becomes **Manually translated**: it is never replaced by an automatic translation. To hand it back to automatic translation, click **Translate this field again**.

## Statuses

| Status | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Not translated** | Nothing is translated in this language yet. |
| **Auto-translated** | Translated by the app. |
| **Manually translated** | You wrote or fixed the translation. |
| **Outdated** | The original text changed since the translation. Fix it, keep it with **Keep my translation**, or click **Translate this field again**. |

:::note[Good to know]
- Only stores with a page have texts to translate: on the store locator, the others only show their name, address, type, services and hours.
- **Translate now** leaves your outdated manual translations as they are. Tick the box in the window to translate them again too.
- The address of a store's page isn't translated: it is the same in every language.
- The labels of exceptional hours, country pages, your store locator page, your menus and your theme's texts are translated with Translate & Adapt, Shopify's free app.
